About Sparrow Private Investigations, LLC

The Owner and President of Sparrow Private Investigations, Shelly Vander Veen, is a California Bureau of Security and Investigation Services (BSIS) Licensed Private Investigator and Qualified Manager. She has 34 years of combined professional experience in law enforcement and private sector investigations.

Prior to founding Sparrow Private Investigations LLC, Shelly served the City of Claremont within their Police Department starting as a patrol officer in 1995, rising through the ranks and retiring as Police Chief in 2021. During her 29 years of service within the Police Department, she was an award receiving detective garnering recognition for her investigative accomplishments from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, California Police Officer Standard Training (POST), and the Claremont Police Commission. Recognition was received for the solving of several high-profile cases including a serial robbery spree throughout the Inland Empire, a sexual assault/arson/attempted murder, and a residential burglary/attempted murder. She also served for six years as the Lieutenant overseeing the Detective Bureau. During her time at the Police Department, she transformed the department’s evidence management systems, modernizing both the management and processing of evidence, positively impacting the city’s crime clearance rates. She also developed the Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Investigative Unit. 

In 2022, Shelly developed and founded Sparrow Private Investigations LLC. The firm is a full-service investigative agency providing professional investigative work including workers comp and general workplace investigations, background and pre-employment checks, social media and online research, school district residency verification, and other civil and criminal investigations.
